reddingmountainbiking  > Other > IMBA 2009 Visit
This is our project for our 2009 IMBA Trail Care Crew visit this coming October 8-11. I approached park superintendant Jim Milestone with our idea for a project on a problem section of trail at Whiskeytown National Park. A lot of man hours were approved to get this project "ready" for our TCC visit. Now, all we need is your help at the volunteer day on October 10th. Today, 9/05/09 we got the rocks into place on the trail for placement during our workday. PLEASE, mark your calendars to come out for this event!

reddingmountainbiking > The project: A heavily rutted out section of "The Brandy Creek Falls Trail", also known as "The Ice Box". The solution, armor the trail with large rock to eliminate the erosion problem. Problem: Where to get rocks? How do we get them to the trail?
reddingmountainbiking > more erosion issues.
reddingmountainbiking > You can tell how much the tread has eroded, the section on the upper left used to be even with the trail!

reddingmountainbiking > Part of the solution, we got the rocks to the trailhead via dumptruck and backhoe.

reddingmountainbiking > As close as you want to get to a rattlesnake!
reddingmountainbiking > Suprise, suprise! We left the rocks overnight and had an uninvited guest show up!
reddingmountainbiking > The rest of the solution: A motorized wheelbarrow and a backhoe to load it!
